Biotoxin Removal - Charcoal, Clay & Cholestyramine Combo Research |
![]() |
This page contains educational material primarily about Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome due to a water damaged building (CIRS). This is a biotoxin illness that is caused by mold and the interaction between mold, bacteria and chemicals used in building materials. Other biotoxin illnesses have similar signs and symptoms. They are also treated similarly. Some of them are discussed on this site. Additionally, there is imformation on this site about Nutrigenomics and Biotransformational pathways as you really can't treat someone with a biotoxin illness without including analysis and treatment of these pathways. Some people are reporting the use of charcoal, clay and cholestyramine together and getting a synergistic effect. I am looking for research using two or more of these toether I will post anything that is relative below. So far, I have found an article looking at the use of charcoal and cholestyramine used seperately and together to lower cholesterol. It appears in this case the use of them together was slightly less useful than the use of cholestyramine by itself. However, 1/2 the amount of cholestyramine is being used which would decrease the cost. The slight lessening of effect may be worthwhile in exchange for a decreased cost of using 1/2 charcoal. Looking at cholesterol removal is useful as like the mycotoxins, it is bouind to bile and goes through the enterohepatic circulation. Choestyramine is used to bind the bile and remove cholesterol and mycotoxins. In both cases it is through fecal elimination of the bile bound items. Eur J Clin Pharmacol. 1989;37(3):225-30. Abstract This article below is not research on a mix of ingredients, but it does compare clays, cellulose, yeast cell walls and charcoal.
