This is a biotoxin illness is that is caused by mold and the interaction between mold, bacteria and chemicals used in building materials. Other biotoxin illnesses have similar signs and symptoms. They are also treated similarly. Some of them are discussed on this site. This information is for educational purposes only. Nothing in this text is intended to serve as medical advice. Certain findings in the history of a patient will clue the physician in to the possibility that their patients has a biotoxin illness. These are just clues to look further and are simply part of a larger picture that needs to fall into place to diagnose CIRS.

Regarding mold sensitivity: In addition to having exposure to a water damaged building, many people have some type of precipitating incident that sets off CIRS. They may have been living, working in or being educated in a water damaged environment with no issues until a precipitating incident that causes extreme physical, mental and or emotional stress sets CIRS into motion.
